Hello. My name is Lynne Berrett. My husband Joshua and I founded the Ageless Mind Project as a 501(c)(3) organization in 20012. However, the journey to creating immersive, interactive brain training programs began more than two decades ago.
In 1997, we became the primary caregivers for a close family member who had lost the ability to live independently. In the years that followed, we assumed that role for other family members who weren’t able to care for themselves for a variety of reasons. One lived in our home for the last years of her life while others lived in senior residences and nursing homes.
Over the years, we learned at first hand what being a caregiver is like for the family and we wanted to create a change. We began researching ways to help improve the lives and well being of not only those in need of care, but the caregivers as well.
Joshua drew upon his background as a college professor while I drew upon my background as a therapist and coach to begin studying the latest research on brain health and overall well being. We began applying these principals to our own daily lives.
Our initial goal was protect our own minds, bodies and spirits from deteriorating. As we enter our 8th decade, I’m pleased to report that we’re both functioning as well as we were two decades ago. Our application of our research to our own lives was paying huge dividends. As we recognized the remarkable results happening in our own lives, we realized that we needed to share this information with others as well.
This is the new face of aging.
This was the genesis of our Ageless Mind Project, a nonprofit organization with a vision and mission: to help older adults maintain good self care habits, have lives filled with meaning, enjoy many opportunities for creative expression and positive relationships, and always continue to learn and grow.
This is what we mean by “ageless,” in the best sense of the word.
Our goal is to bring you news of innovative approaches to aging around the world – ideas that you can use in your own life.
Much of the world’s population is getting older. Let’s all make getting older better.
